Virginia Evans on writing

This Joan Didion quote was her north star for The Correspondent:
What I’ve made for myself is personal, but it’s not exactly peace. Most of us live less theatrically, but remain the survivors of a peculiar and inward time.
Writing advice from Claire Keegan:
Your story is an incision in time. There was time before and after. Where precisely are you making your incision and how does that inform everything else?
What comes next (in the story)? Are you stuck? Follow your people (the characters) through their physical space. Put yourself in their shoes. Where did they go next?
P.S. I'll Have What She's Having goes out every weekend: a note + 5 good things (books, recipes, travel). You should sign up!
